I don't find him attractive at all, to be honest. Well, he was cute in Harry Potter, but since Twilight he's always just looked so...messy. And not in a good way.

Anyway, I hated his acting in Twilight (but then I hate all the characters of Twilight, so that may not be his fault), but since I've only seen him in one other movie (which I can't even remember the name of), I can't really attest to his acting ability.

And I agree, by the way. On one hand, it's the best mistake he's ever done. Dude is filthy popular because of it. On the other hand, though, I doubt many people-- Twilovers and Twihaters alike-- are able to separate Edward Cullen from Rob Pat. =/

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Robert Pattinson has the same worry. (http://robert-pattinson-hates-his-life.tumblr.com/)

[identity profile] ikabod11.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I often wonder how Twihards feel about the fact that Pattinson has such disdain for Twilight.

I feel sorry for him, because he seems like a decent dude, judging from interviews with him and stuff(I can't attest to his acting since I've never seen him act) but he's either loved to an unhealthy degree or despised to and unhealthy degree by most people, thanks to Twilight.
At least he's gotten plenty of money out of the hand he's gotten(I hope, at least).

[identity profile] xelestri.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, assuming he spends his money wisely, he's assuredly a millionaire because of Twilight, so even if it does ruin his career, he could, theoretically, be set for life anyway.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-01 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
ok but a shitload of people love twilight and directors understand he has talent soooo it's only "ruined" for people who think twilight is just so irredeemably awful

[identity profile] phoenix39.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
But he will always "be" Edward Cullen.

[identity profile] harpsi-fizz.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
O.P: Watch Little Ashes. I plan to, too.

I kinda like R.Patzz better because of his experience in the Twilight movies...
Wait, I know what that sounds like, and I don't mean it that way. I mean that while I'm sure he's a nice guy, in my head-reality, Rob is just a character in God's cruel fanfic. A fantastic character, really- good looking guy with hard luck, but a trollish sense of humor who tries every which way to outwit the deity he upset, but always ends up running into the brick wall at the last second.

I scorned him at first for being in the movies, but after seeing what a humongous Troll-lol-lol he is, I think he's pretty cool. I mean, did you see his interviews? At first I honestly thought that he had a mental condition where he didn't understand what wasn't appropriate to say to people (like telling K-Stew very glibly that her cat was going to die), then I thought he just had no shame (the whole "I never bathe or wash my hair" thing).

He's actually more like the portrayal of Psyche in the book The Princess and the God. Psyche's two older sisters hate her because she's so beautiful and when she's a little girl, she covers her face with mud and puts sticks in her hair because she thinks that if she's ugly, they'll play with her. That's what I think he was trying to do- trying to make himself repulsive so the insane fans might back off, but alas, poor Rob, he continues to be God's play-thing. I can imagine him staying up late thinking and researching and trying to find a way to make them back off him, short of drop-kicking a puppy.

This comment is lovely.

[identity profile] broadwaybabe11.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Rob's interviews crack me up

[identity profile] oaktree89.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, Little Ashes had its moments, but it wasn't exactly amazing. The guy who played Garcia Lorca was incredible, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-01 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't sing songs of destruction yet. Cosmopolis looks like it'll be freakin' righteous.

[identity profile] herosquad.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen a Twilight movie, and I think he's quirky-hot and he comes across as pretty interesting and self-effacing offscreen to me. I'd like to see him play a Hugh Grant-style cad or something, rather than the Brooding Hot Guy. I just can't help rooting for the dude. I want to take him to a diner and buy him pancakes or something.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen Little Ashes? He was exceptional in that.

[identity profile] replicantangel.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen him act in a lot of things (really just HP, now that I think about it) but I kinda love him because of his Twilight trolling. It's not grouchy ungratefulness, just hilarious commentary.

That all said, there are tons of male celebrities that have shaken a lot of their initial teen heartthrob status for something far more substantial - Justin Timberlake, Michael J. Fox, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Michael Jackson, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, for starters. I don't think anyone can say Pattison is down and out yet.

[identity profile] agnes-bean.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I was coming here to say the same thing! If Leo DiCaprio can go from Titanic to all ~serious business~ movies, Robert can too.

[identity profile] darkmanifest.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, remembering how Depp and DiCaprio escaped actually gives me a lot of hope for Pattinson. Though he might have to go even further off the reservation to pull it off, since he's attached to an entire godforsaken series rather than one-off movies.

[identity profile] anonlulz.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
If he's going to act constipated in all his movies, I'll avoid him for life.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
ngl I think so too. I think that people can separate themselves from their huge franchises; I really think that Daniel Radcliffe, for example, is doing a pretty good job of that. But I think Robert Pattinson has to work pretty hard to make that separation.

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, Rob has the talent to recover. Kristen Stewart on the other hand...

[identity profile] georgeslymaniv.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't like him in Water for Elephants. I think he's probably an alright dude. He's not very attractive though, or good in any movies I've seen him in.

[identity profile] phoenix39.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen Remember Me? It was phenomenal and he was phenomenal in it!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I can't say if I agree or not, since I've only seen him in HP, but part of me does wonder, So what if he's ruined? He has $50 million in the bank thanks to Breaking Dawn. He doesn't need to work another day in his life if he doesn't want to.

I think Pattinson, and Stewart, will walk away from the Twilight wreckage just fine - they're pretty careful about their other movie roles, and seem to have a useful self-awareness about what they got themselves into. It's Lautner I'm worried about. He seems, to me, a little too dependent on riding that teen sex symbol horse of his until it finally throws him off and tramples him to death.
