But Commander Technophile Shepard, who else will save the universe and have torrid alien love affairs?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
it is kinda weird, but it's weird-cool to me.

especially in mass effect because fem shep does sound and move like me.

it weirds me out a lot, it's like me doing really ridiculous space things and caressing liaras tentacles or whatev. kinda hilarious but way more entertaining to me that way

ASKDFHGLKAS JENNIFER HALE ON F!S?

I kid, I kid.

I am now imagining a group of Woopers looking at your posts with increasingly quizzical and furrowed brows (shortly before turning around and finding something that absolutely delights them).

Well, that's cool I guess. Not something I would ever do though. I'm plain looking and boring as hell, so why would i ever want to play as myself when I could be someone else instead?

[identity profile] unicornherds.livejournal.com 2012-05-01 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You are definitely not alone in doing that. I've seen a lot of people say things like that, and I just don't get it. I had no idea that it was so popular until recently, and now I"m wondering if I'm the weirdo because not a single character that I've ever created has looked like me. I look like me every day, if given the chance I am totally going to go nuts and create something awesomely different. Plus, I don't play as me in video games, I'm immersing myself in the character within that world...if that makes sense.

I don't think it's narcissism, I think it's more like just wanting to insert yourself into the story in a more believable way, and there's nothing wrong with that.

zomg, call the national guard! Someone's replicating their RL face in their game avatars!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I like games, regardless, but being able to make a character look like me (or if the character already does) definitely adds to the enjoyment factor.
I like to imagine myself being a badass space marine, or owning a huge mansion full of nice things, or shooting up people with a rocket launcher and not giving a single fuck. It's fun.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
idk if other people do this, but in games I kind of have a look that represents me but is nothing like how I really look. So I always like playing how my game persona looks or close to that, but I hate playing how I really look.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
I always create my characters with a certain hair color and skin tone (whenever possible) that is nothing like what I look like in real life. I look boring as hell and don't care to see someone that actually looks like me running around in the game, though I still think of the in-game character as "myself". Sorta. Maybe more like an alter-ego or something. Not sure if that's exactly what you meant, though.

[identity profile] georgeslymaniv.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I try but they always look really off. I'm Asian. Wahh.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
you and every 20something white male feel this way, according to the majority of protagonists' character designs
