It's comforting to know I'm not the only one that's gotten tired of getting a personal history lesson with every (or every other) review. Yes, it was horrifying; yes, it shouldn't have happened/people shouldn't be like that; yes, you've overcome and gone on to do really cool things and that's great... but really? Every time? Can we not just talk about the show/book/whatever for a while? :/

It's his site and his reviews are about his personal interactions with a a show or book and sometimes a person's personal reactions to a show or book are informed and influenced by that person's own history.

I understand that - but when the reviews starting become more about him than the show? Almost every review? It got kind of redundant and it wasn't, I don't know, as much fun as it used to be. It felt less about whatever he was watching/reading and more like reading his biography. And re-reading the same chapters of said biography over and over at that.

But that said, that's just my opinion and he is of course free to do whatever he wants with his site. I just stopped going to Mark Reads/Watches. He can do his thing - I have the power to decide where I go on the internet. *shrug*

Idk. Mark sharing personal stories have always been a part of his reviews since at least the Harry Potter days, but I suppose it depends on when you started reading because the amount he talks about his personal life probably correlates to how much he personally relates to a specific work, so there have been times when he's talked about personal stuff less and times when he's talked about it more. But even when his reviews take a personal bent, the comments are generally talking mostly about the show.

But as you said, if you're not a fan of the way things are, no harm no foul if you don't want to stick around.

I remember during one of his read-alongs when he was about to get to one of my favorite chapters and I was so excited and really wanted to see what he would say about it, and--

The entire entry was an incredibly depressing story from his childhood. He barely talked about anything in the chapter. And now matter how bad a person this makes me, I was really disappointed, and always was when that started happening more frequently. I haven't been reading Mark Reads lately because the books he's on now are ones I haven't read (and don't have time/interest for), but I don't know if I'll be coming back for when he gets to, say, A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Original Commenter. Yeah, that was what it was for me. I was really excited to see what he thought about X... and got maybe a paragraph about it when the rest of several thousand word entry was about him. And then it kept happening and, as you said, it was disappointing.

I was looking forward to his reading Percy Jackson... but I'm not sure I'll go back either. :/
