(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)But then again, there probably are a lot of people in fandom who greatly overestimate their writing abilities and will be very disappointed if they ever manage to get published.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 12:35 am (UTC)(link)It doesn't even really have much to do with writing ability. It has more to do with popularity. If a book is popular, then more fanfic is written for it.
Also, if you write a YA series, then you have a much better chance. Think about the books that get lots of fanfics: Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Eragon. If you write a book targeted toward an adult audience or young children, then you have a lot less of a chance of having fanfic written for it. Also, if you write stand alone novels, then your chances go WAY down.
