(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 03:19 am (UTC)(link)The Harry Potter books, like plenty of other novels, have character names that suit the characters on a superficial level, like Pomona Sprout, Delores Umbridge, Emeric Switch, etc. Almost every single uncommon name in the books has something to do with the character's personality, even down to Albus Dumbledore, or even Minerva McGonagall for instance. I'm not sure why Voldemort's name-play should ruin an entire book for anyone considering this is a pretty common device in literature. I'd wager it's actually pretty rare for a character's name to not have significant meaning, wether overt or not.
