Um... maybe... every scene where he's required to make difficult decisions or sacrifice his needs for the needs of the world?
Aang is constantly depicted as being wise and mature beyond his years. Literally the only place where he's not forced to grow up quickly is in his crush on Katara.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)You mean every scene where he ran away from his duty as Avatar, put his own needs ahead of everyone else;s, and an Ass Pull plot device cropped up just in time to save him from making any hard decisions or have to sacrifice anything.

I actually agree that the energybending stuff robbed his arc of the power it could have had, but that doesn't cheapen the many other high points of his story. And in any case, he's already paid the ultimate price for his reluctance to accept responsibility—his entire culture was wiped out! Is that not enough for you?
To claim that Aang is inherently immature or selfish is to wilfully misread his narrative. Sorry! :-)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)I wasn't asking for him to pay a price, though. I was asking for him to learn that running away from your duty at the first sign of something you don't like is not okay and to not do it anymore. That, he never learned, because even when he got in trouble for it, other characters just told him to ignore the consequences and that he was right (Katara and Iroh specifically).
To claim that Aang is inherently immature or selfish is to read exactly what the narrative shows me. Sorry! :-)
