I do think it's inconsiderate and a huuuuuuge overreaction to compare this in any way to 1984. Asking you to not be an asshole is not censorship. It just means that you should think about the way your words affect others.

She is over blowing it, but it's a bit much to tell her to stop using a word when it isn't as clear cut a slur like 'fag' or what have you. But it does have enough of a reputation as playground and internet slang to where it isn't appropriate on a kid's show.
