I know exactly how you feel, OP. Don't get me wrong, I love Minecraft. I just wish there were interactive NPC's (other than the mobs). I'd play on someone's server but I don't know anybody who plays so... =(

This has nothing to do with anything, but your icon makes me smile everytime I see it :)

[identity profile] swaggerdoodle.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, thanks bb! <3 I love your icon too!

I just bought a server that can host up to ten people and only me and my friend are playing. I'm a bit wary about inviting strangers on, but I'd love to have more people around building and having fun... so if you're really interested, let me know. :D

And to the OP of the secret, that includes you, too!

Mind you, I will break both of your faces if you grief my home or steal my shit. :D

You might enjoy the Millenaire mod, then! It adds, what, something like 4 different 'cultures' of villages filled with npcs, and you can go on quests and trade with them and help build their villages up. You can also get it with the Yogbox, with adds additional mods that are quite spiffy!

come play on a multi-player server! I find minecraft really dull when I'm not playing with my friends...and after reading a lot of Herobrine stuff I did get a little nervous to play single, not gonna lie.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's sort of what I LIKE about it - but I haven't played extensively...

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-05-02 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
This is actually part of why I haven't played it. I have a friend who's really gotten into Minecraft and I watched her play for a while. It just felt so empty and it seemed kind of freaky.

Never played Minecraft, but I always thought the isolation and lack of human interaction in Myst was pretty creepy. Of course, that's also why I liked it.

Multiplayer seems like the obvious choice here.

I kind of like games that make me feel isolated though (metroid, myst, etc...)

MCAU.org is a really awesome multiplayer server. ^^

After I had played single player a bunch it was the first public server I played on.

I love singleplayer for working on my own little projects, but I do get kind of sick of being the only one to really appreciate what I'm doing. I spend most of my Minecraft time on Reddit PvE. :D The address is p.nerd.nu . All the information about all three of the nerd servers is here (http://www.nerd.nu).

PvE is a public server, player vs. environment-style. There are public food farms, cities, a public transport system and all of it is legit (all resources mined, except for glowstone because people clear out the Nether in like a week). It's a pretty nice place to be, imo. We even have organized games and a server-wide spleef (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Spleef) league. Here's our subreddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/mcpublic), where all the community talks about projects, etc.

I really enjoy my time at PvE, so you might come check it out! We're almost at the end of our current map, so now's a good time to see how developed the server gets over 2 months or so of play. :)

Find a friend or two to play with or a public server. I don't panic when playing single player, but I get bored rather easily. When I play with my boyfriend we have hours of fun creating our monstrous home and exploring in the mines. Often he'll mine and I'll build, so in a way we do our own thing and I find it relaxing. I had a farm too, so the sounds from that helped break up the silence.

For a while I got nervous playing Minecraft through the Minecraft nights cause the zombies were gonna eat me! But then they came out with beds and I could sleep away the scary night.

I haven't used any in a while, but there are various mods that can add more people and creatures to the world if it's too empty for you. :)

I highly reccomend The Creeper Cartel (mc.thecreepercartel.com), it's an american server so it can be a bit laggy for non-US folks like me, but it's a friendly server with protections and no PvP.

If you want PvP and whatnot, there are plenty of great servers out there, but the only one I played on broke down and disbanded a few days ago. :(

Don't give up on Minecraft! Don't worry about not knowing anyone, you'll make lots of new friends!

That's what multiplayer servers are for, yo! Though for me personally, the guys I play with on multiplayer are trolls who mostly build giant lava features and experiment with the amount of TNT they can place and explode without crashing the server. Usually they do this on one of the more house-like structures being built by another guy on the server. It's great fun.

BUUUUUT the vast majority of the time I spend playing Minecraft is alone. Because I am a pussy and really just want to play with Legos on the computer, I play on peaceful mode and design massive cities crafted out of materials I have to go looking for and collect. In my main world, I have a giant fucking castle built almost entirely out of obsidian with red wool decorations, glowstone chandeliers, and an extensive electric cart system to get around the thing. I go on mining/gathering adventures that can take over a week in real time before I've mined/gathered all I can carry, especially if I'm farming obsidian using lava lakes underground.

The only problem I have with the game is that if I don't play for too long, the damn thing has a habit of updating and adding tons of shit and I practically have to re-learn how to play it when I start the thing up again. :P

the server i go on is http://www.darrenstraight.com/minecraft/ , called YAMS, and its brilliant. organised well and griefers get caught. :)
