They're okay. I actually ship McCoy with Emony Dax in the AU. My headcanon is she's "the ex-wife", and she's played by Freema Agyeman.

I admit, i've not been involved in the fandom since about six months after the reboot film came out, so it might have changed a lot, but back then Kirk/Bones seemed to be EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE and I barely saw much about Kirk/Spock comparitively, which always surprised me since it was The Big Pairing back in the day.

Back in '09 Kirk/Bones was pretty big, but I've recently got back into the fandom and it seems K/S is just as popular as ever. I think it's easier to ship Kirk/Bones based on the reboot (in TOS the friends-only vibe was very strong, where K/S had an obviously more ambiguous 'friends-or-lovers?' thing) because their relationship was the least antagonistic.

Well, there was this huge poll a while back where people checked ships they ship and Kirk/Bones was slightly in the lead, and they do tend to get more big bangs every year, etc. It's not like there isn't a shit-ton of Kirk/Spock, but I would be surprised if there isn't slightly more K/M specifically in reboot.

as for het: Spock/Uhura is popular (but then it's the only canon ship there lol) people bitch about it and say that everyone hates them but look at fanfictions.net or their livejournal community. That's a lot of fans for a couple that didn't have a fanbase before the reboot.
as for slash: yeah Kirk/McCoy and Kirk/Spock are pretty equal for popularity. Difference is that Kirk/McCoy are liked and became popular after the reboot because of their actual development there while Kirk/Spock is mostly liked as the default slash pair of the fandom. But in the reboot they don't have more subtext than K/M

I don't ship them but their relationship, whatever you want to like it as friendship or something more, is more realistic than the forced contrivance that is Kirk/Spock* in that movie
*hello Spock Prime anyone? He's the only reason they suddenly stop to despise each other. I always hate the whole telling the future time travel destiny crap and this movie is not an exception. You spoil the future for me before I even got the chance to spontaneously live that life on me own.
