Personally I'd have gone with an abortion but since Mad Men was set in the 60s before the advent of Roe vs. Wade, I totally agree with you.

Also IIRC she legit did not know she was pregnant. Right?

Yeah I forgot about that bit but yeah she didn't. Don't know how you wouldn't notice the creature moving around in there or not having a period for months but I guess Peggy was either in deep denial or one of those strange cases TLC love showcasing on "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant"

She did go on birth control early in the season (though either a)not soon enough, or b)she didn't understand its proper usage). I can see her maybe thinking that no period at all was normal with it. Also, some spotting can still occur during pregnancy.

Just because it was before Roe v. Wade didn't mean abortion didn't happen. It was just a lot more hush hush than it is now. They actually show 2 characters seriously considering getting abortions although it was discouraged for both of them since they were married (because if they were married, why wouldn't they want the baby? *sarcasm*)

I'm not sure what I would've done in the situation since I've never been in that situation....

Also, didn't it turn out that Joan had at least one abortion before, but she didn't do it this time around? Honestly, the length between season 4 and 5 had me forget so much.

I think it was implied she had two, so yeah. She didn't go through with the third-- I haven't watched the most recent episodes but she does have a baby now, most likely Roger's.

I sort of wonder why she made that choice, if she had already had abortions before. Doesn't seem like a good idea financially and professionally for her to have a child now, especially now that her husband is out of the picture.

She was married during the time she decided to keep the baby and probably wasn't thinking of divorcing Greg yet. She and Greg had been trying, thus far unsuccessfully. She also expressed concerns that her 2 "procedures" may have done something to her fertility, and also she was getting up in years, especially by 1960s standards.

What anon said. Greg was still around at the time, and it's implied that she wasn't sure there would be another shot at motherhood.
