30DD IS large. It's not humongous, no, but I never said it was. If I have to shop for shirts a size bigger because I can't fit my breasts into stuff my size, then they're large. If I have to wear two sports bras while jogging because one doesn't cut it, then they're large. If I can't even cup my entire breast with one hand, then they're large.

And no, my friend isn't overweight. She has huge boobs. Yes, her upper body is a bit wide, but she's certainly not fat. Or even chubby. She's small. It is possible for skinny people to just have big breasts, you know.

I don't think you know much about larger chest sizes then, if you say your friend isn't overweight. She's most likely a H cup, or even larger. I have a small rib cage and larger breasts, and I can tell you that a 30DD isn't that big in comparison.

Your sister cup sizes are a 32D and a 34C, your bust size is 35". *shrugs* It's just not going to look that big, especially if you're that tall.

It's also possible for skinny people to have large rib cages and. Numbers really don't tell the whole story.
ext_81845: amuro ray from mobile suit gundam, in his underwear, from the doan's island episode (WTF?!)

As far as the letter size goes though, doesn't that refer to the actual BREAST and isn't a D pretty much always a D no matter how big the person is or what ribcage size they are?

I'm pretty confused now.

[identity profile] ivysaur.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
The letter is about the proportion of the bust measurement to the ribcage measurement, not the actual bust measurement. If your bust measurement is one inch bigger than your ribcage measurement, then you're an A cup. Two inches bigger, you're a B, 3 inches C, and so on. Someone who's a 32D is going to have a smaller bust measurement than a 40D, what they do have in common is that their bust measurements are four inches bigger than their respective ribcage measurements.

And though you didn't mention it, the number in a bra size is one's ribcage measurement (or rounded up or down one inch from the ribcage measurement, since bra size numbers are all even numbers), and has nothing to do with one's breast size.

This.

If your friend is small and not fat, she is likely not a 40-anything. She probably should go in for a fitting.

This. If you're 40+ and not fat, I've GOT to see it because it's seriously unheard of. They must be really, really disproportionate.

Is 36 considered a large rib cage?

I'm 5'10 and 115 lbs and I've always worn a 36B

but I've also found that my bra is basically worthless at being supportive

maybe ishould be a 32d or 30dd? hmm

Does your bra always ride up your back and your straps feel like they're falling off? If so your band is too large and you should move to 34 or 32. I thought I was a 34DD for years (they even fit me for that at fancy bra shops) until I tried on a 32E... magic. Though tbh for me it's pretty subtle - I have to cinch up a 34 to the tightest hook, while a 32 never gets past the widest one unless it's old and stretched. I can fit into a 32DD ok but not brilliantly too. Just go into a lingeries shop and try all the things.

yes, my straps are always falling down. also, my boobs are always hanging out near my armpits and my nipples often pop full out of my bra :(

it makes more sense now that I read about it, maybe I need a smaller band and larger cups. in the past I was just all "but how can it be both too big and too small?!"

totally gonna try out those sizes at the store. thank you for the info/tips!

In the example posted they claimed 48 and skinny, which is the main reason I went "WHAT."

You very likely are. I've been near those specifications myself and was at a 32 ribcage. Of course, everyone is different and 36 isn't unheard of. Just uncommon with such specs.

thanks! this is all making bras make a lot more sense to me.

my bra always seems too loose in places, yet not big enough to keep my nipples from constantly popping out. makes sense maybe I need a larger cup but smaller band. I was alway just going up and down in the bs before, oops. I will try some of those sizes next time!

If 36 is large we can be large together- I'm 5'11 and a 36C. :P

Used to bother me (my mother was a DD when she was my age), but in the long run my SO and I are more than happy with what I've got, so whatever.
