Well, colls ran it for eight phases - I co-run a writing comm, so I know how involved it can be - I can't imagine doing it forever LOL. I think it's mostly just...time. They're keeping the social comm open and may throw out a random challenge now and again for kicks. I think it just makes me sad to see such an amazing fandom go quietly into that there night. Not that the fandom won't always be there, but...y'know. I watched the last scene of "Gauntlet" which was the last scene ever scored by Goldsmith and even if you don't love SGU, it's an AMAZING piece of music and somehow a befitting final scene for Stargate...it's got a sense of melancholy with a tad bit of hope that it won't always be gone.

Maybe you know me from Gateworld? I hang out on the S/J forum mainly. I also had fanfic up and about (well it's still up, but I flist locked it all). And I was around on stargateland obviously :P

Colls is an amazing person, tbh, no matter what fandom you're in with her(?). But, yeah, I can understand why. All good things must end. My biggest regret is that I never actually signed up for stargateland. It's just so sad to watch fandom slowly dissolve into the ether.
I'm saving SGU for when I get really desperate. I don't HATE it, but I wasn't fond of Air, and I couldn't get into it at the time. One day I'll finish it all off. Part of me is worried that it really WILL be over when I finish SGU.

That's a possibility! I hung out in the S/J threads and lots of the John/Teyla SGA threads. Admittedly, I haven't been on GW since...errr...2008ish? I lurked for years before, though. And I spent years on FF.net starting in '05.
Gosh, that seems like forever ago. I've totally put it behind me, because I was so young and immature back then that it's truly terrifying.

I'll be honest, the first half of the first season is the hardest part of SGU to get through. I think the writers really understood their characters and so I felt like I was missing a piece...but after I watched the end of S.1 and then went back and REwatched the first half, I found myself enjoying the episodes much, much more. By the end of S.2 I have to say, I think SGU had some of the finest writing and some of the best acting that I've seen - and that by no means belittles SG1 or SGA, SGU was different. For the tone they were going for, it was excellent. I love my shows a little darker and a little grittier (my favorite SG1 ep...Abyss and Heroes LOL I mean c'mon!).

I joined GW in 2006, so it's possible our paths overlapped. I was, at one time, known as Twilight506 ;) However, when the books became popular (I'd been using Twilight as a handle since '99, 2000 on various other places, well before the books were written), I made a change and decided to pick something more fannish (from Wheel of Time) so as to know that no matter what, I was happy being associated with a particular fandom LOL

I love dark, gritty shows, so I never understood why I couldn't get into SGU. Now I'm really considering going back to it and trying again.

That's cool! I've had majorshipper since I stepped out of the lurking shadows and properly joined fandom. Since then I've flip-flopped between it and youcallmegeek(with my twitter, most notably), but I always come back to this username, for some reason.
