You're not a gay rights activist because you ship slash (even though you might be one), nor are you a homophobe for not doing so (though you might be a homophobe depending on your reasons, and if you hate all slash people will be reasonably suspicious). You are a gay rights activist or homophobe because of your attitudes, words, and actions, not how much or how little you want to see two characters fucking, or how much you do or don't get off to blow jobs. Same for other ships involving marginalized people.
