I don't know all the anon acronyms but I posted the comment you are replying to.

I do write fanfic that contains sex and adult situations. I naturally did not tell my child about fanfic porn in general nor mine in particular. Because she is nine.

I am an English professor and my house is full of books that contain sexual and adult situations. My child is reading on a 12th grade level. Because that's where the reading tests given in elementary schools stop. She could read all the words in The Prince of Tides or Stranger in a Strange Land or hell even my perennial favorite Sweet Savage Love, but I haven't made those books aren't available to her yet because while she could read and understand them to a certain extent, I don't think she's emotionally ready for their content.

When she's older, I fully expect her to read any of the books we have in our house, and I have no intentions of censoring her readership. I don't intend to censor her internet reading either.

A preponderance of the fanfic I write has no sexual or mature content at all, and even the vast majority of those that do are not what I would categorize as PWP. If she chooses to become a part of fandom, I don't think I could logistically show her the gen and hide the stuff with sex in it. But IDK, that's years ahead of where we are now.

You sound like an awesome parent and I applaud your efforts. My mom did much the same with me and I think I've turned out fairly well (and people seem to agree with that so until I hear something to the contrary...yeah). And should I ever have rugrats, I'll do the same with them.

Fandom is such an important part of my life and such a rich and interesting place, I can't imagine trying to keep it a secret from my kid. (Within age appropriate limits), I'm stoked for her to start participating in fandom. :)
