For me, I was sitting at a crossroads. I'd just found out that everything I wanted to do with my life wasn't even what I wanted to do, I was going through a massive suicidal phase, and I was ready to just give up. And then I was watching Stargate, and I looked at Sam, and I thought "Why couldn't I be like her? What, exactly, is stopping me, other than myself? Who says I can't touch the stars?"
And so I decided that well, maybe I could do something.

Basically every damn thing you said. Everything reminds me in one way or another of something from one of the shows, and those characters will be with me for a long, long time.

It's hard to gauge how much of an effect a show has had on you until you're sitting down reading a book about Egypt and you realize you already know half this stuff because Daniel Jackson...and then you realize you say "Indeed" waaaaaay more than the average population.

It sounds sooooo cheesy, but Stargate's more than just a show, y'know?


LOL I feel bad for replying to every comment on this secret, but I really want to talk with other SG fans! Fandom is that small.

There's a small but kind contingent of Stargate fans on tumblr. http://fuckyeahstargate.tumblr.com/ reblogs stuff from most of them. I'm mostly active on tumblr these days and it seems like a lot of the people who were just SICK of the nasty attitudes that pervaded older fandoms sort of ported off to quietly enjoy themselves in a less-structured way over there. There's plenty of wank on tumblr in general, but it's way easier to ignore it. And it seems like people who post about older, less-active fandoms are almost universally accepting and chill.
