IDK about the whole fandom, but a lot of the 'con fans scare the crap out of me. I mean, they think the 'cons are sexy no matter who they kill but when a 'bot loses his temper and beats the scrap out of one of them we should all feel sorry for the 'con and the 'bot has failed morality forever.

I just... seriously guys? X_x

Not all of us are like that! Some of us like both factions.

No matter who they kill? Who have we seen them kill? Just Cliffjumper, in the first episode. And then Autobots killed miscellaneous Decepticons, and then Airachnid killed Breakdown, and everyone hates her. When we actually see the Decepticons racking up a body count, your argument might hold some weight.

Exhibit A why people think our fandom is batfuck.

You're one of the reasons I don't even watch the tf_prime comm anymore because episode discussion posts are so hostile

...wut.

I guess this would be a bad time to say that yeah, I did think it was immorally reprehensible when Bulkhead did kill the Starscream clone, though it has nothing to do with the 'Cons being sexy (Starscream deserves to die!), it just sat ill with me.

Maybe I'm too much of a Bulkhead fan to be unbias, but the scene felt well played to me and added some great character development. Bulkhead is an emotional character, and he's from a group of autobots that were normally scent on suicide missions where it was either kill or be killed. He lost control. It made sense for him to react like that to me, and his own reaction to realizing what he had done with his uncertain "...I had to do it" just... I think it was a fantastic character flaw to bring out in that way.

It just doesn't seem fair that many fans say the 'cons are better because they have flaws but get mad when an autobot is given a fatal flaw. I know that the autobots should be on a different level of mortality because - well - they're the GOOD GUYS, but...

...Gah, does any of this make sense? ._.;

Nah, I understood what you mean. And now my rebuttal.

"Maybe I'm too much of a Bulkhead fan to be unbias, but the scene felt well played to me and added some great character development. This is why I have a problem with the scene. The general aspect of TFP (what I notice anyways) is that it goes for a black and white morality of Autobots = good and Decepticons = bad (this is not a criticism, mind you), so there's a kind of mindset and expectation that I follow. Thus, I can expect the Cons to pull something like this because they're "the bad guys". Starscream did provoke Bulkhead - guns and all - but Bulkhead immediately lost his cool (granted, with justification), rammed him down, and smashed his head until he died without ever thinking of the serious repercussion of the murder he just committed. Then he had the gull to say he had "no choice". Yes, he did. He could have let him live; he could have just threatened Starscream to help him find an exit, or knock him unconscious or whatever. This isn't a case where he's killing out of defense; he did just because he lost his cool. I want to say this is character development/flaw, but at no point in the episode after does he ever ponder if he went too far nor does he get reprimanded by Optimus who wouldn't approve of this. It's hard to count it as a flaw if no one calls him out on it or the episode never emphasizes it's a flaw. To me, it seems we're simply suppose to accept that Bulkhead did the right thing. Oh, Starscream deserves to die, no question, but I do think Bulkhead wasn't acting out of defense. I think it's full on coldblooded murder.

And I especially find it irritating because in the same episode, Arcee let Airachid live and took a third option because she declares she is not like her - she's better than her and the Cons. And the episode treats it as though her actions and Bulkhead's fit in the same category. I can't speak for others, but this has nothing to do with Cons being better (I'm mostly Team Autobot for most of the TF franchise :D), it's just an immoral act to me.

I'm soooo sorry for the lengthy rant. It's just, yeah, I don't like it. Sorry. ^_^;

[identity profile] netbug009.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, I can see what you mean. Yeah, in that respect it didn't really fit the show or episode's theme.

...I still thought it was cool though, but yeah, that is the bias talking. :B

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, that's cool. We have our own perspective and like/dislikes. :D

[identity profile] inomuiro.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Just wanting to say I agree with everything you said here. A lot of TFP is made of lost chances to add more nuances and grey shades to the Autobots and Decepticons. When Transformers are involved I have no problems with a very black and white, good vs evil approach, as long as it's coherent: seeing Autobots do immoral things and not being called out on that smacks too much of double standards :\
