Probably.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, OK, that's *hair*. I thought it was the dude's face splitting open and it was freaking me out.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's nice

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This is something I've wondered too anon. I'm a bisexual woman who is - more often than not - attracted more to women. I tend to ship femslash het and female-included poly far more than boyslash. though I have a handful of boyslash pairings I really like (enough to read fic for anyway) I don't know if that has anything to do with my attraction to women or simply because I'm more interested in the women characters in my fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is this surprising? Lesbians/bi sexual women who slash more is weirder.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Still really common. And not that weird.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Still weirder than lesbians who only read femmslash.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Please stop shaming lesbians for whatever porn they happen to read.

yaoi lesbian here~

It's not really that strange. I'm not in it for "would I personally do these characters" but whether it's an interesting situation that appeals to me. I wouldn't bang the guys I read about, but I'm not involved in the sex, so it doesn't matter what I would or wouldn't do. Het doesn't appeal to me at all (or at least not for being het, I'll ship it sometimes when it's the kind of ship that would work even if it wasn't)- tried that a bunch in real life when I was closeted, not that fun to read about anymore. A story that gets you inside the head of a woman who's genuinely interested in men is a weird experience for me.

Femslash appeals to me in theory more, but in execution it's often... quieter, I guess? I like loud stories and loud people, and those plots tend to go over to the slash boys more often. Maybe it's actually a plus that those slash boys have a bunch of things very much not in common with me. I'm not sure about that, but it could be the case. Also... maybe I'm kind of a bitch for this, but femslash, from what I've seen, tends to have a lot more poly and discussions of fluid sexuality. Which is not bad and is a draw to femslash for many people who are probably mostly cool, but it's the opposite of my thing.

Not judging yaoi non-lesbians, or non-yaoi lesbians, or even yaoi lesbians that do it differently, but this works for me and makes perfect sense.

This. Where is the kinky shit? Where is the fisting? The public sex, the immediate horniness?

Oh wait. 98% of it is in slash.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-07 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Agree. I am a female bisexual who is mostly attracted to women. I tend to read slash because there is more kink, more aggression. This was highlighted for me when I stumbled upon fuckyeahyaoi, got exicited then tried fuckyeahyuri. It was so vanilla/fluffy in comparison

I can identify with this, kind of. For years I was really confused about my sexuality and only shipped slash, I think because that way I could sort of separate myself from it without (consciously or not) projecting myself onto one of the characters, which just made me feel more confused because I wasn't sure where I stood. Now I think I have things sorted out (although I can't quite find a label that feels right, but that doesn't really matter) and I'm shipping het all over the place. It started with one specific pairing whose dynamic I just really loved, and now I like several het pairings.

So yeah, I definitely think your own sexuality can play a part in what you ship.

New toys are always the most fun to play with...

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess? I mean I only started reading slash after I was comfortable enough with being gay and now I mostly read slash/gblt novels. It's kinda hard since there's like no gay books in libraries and now I have to buy ebooks or paperback online argh what a hassle :\

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Any good trans books?

[identity profile] klassickasey.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you really ship Gillian and Jimmy Angelov? I mean, I guess they're two sexually attractive characters who probably had great sex together, but on a romantic level he was monstrously abusive towards her, even after his death when he possessed her.

Sorry, off-topic but that's the first thing that caught my attention.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-07 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, good, it wasn't just me.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-08 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
My first reaction was 'Cool, Goran Visnjic doesn't show up on fs that often.'

Second reaction was 'Oh, yeah, the cap is from that movie.

[identity profile] natural-blue-26.livejournal.com 2012-05-09 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I recognized him from ER, but I have no idea what movie (?) this is. Help a girl out?

[identity profile] lordbatpig.livejournal.com 2012-05-10 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
The movie is called 'Practical Magic,' and Sanda Bullock is in it, too. There are cacti shaped pancakes and love potions and frogs that puke up rings. It's fun for a sisterly witchcraft movie.

[identity profile] natural-blue-26.livejournal.com 2012-05-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
You had me at Sandra Bullock and cacti shaped pancakes ;)

[identity profile] lordbatpig.livejournal.com 2012-05-10 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Glad that I could be of service!

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
It might just be because it's "shiny and new" and it might wear off again? For me - I sort of go in cycles of preferring het ships over slash ships and vice versa.

[identity profile] naturedichotomy.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I can definitely relate to this. Never had a whole lot of interest in femmeslash or het until I became fully comfortable with being pansexual :3 Now I love it all.
