Seriously? Zoro's one of the most sensible and civilized people on the crew, next to Nami and Robin, and he works well with them when it's time to get serious and get shit done. He's no intellectual genius, but he's tactical and focused to a fault, so he doesn't get distracted by dumb shit like some crew members I could name. That's why he's first mate. But I guess being practical means being a simpleton now. And I can't even parse the unhygienic part...only person on the crew who could possibly be that silly is Luffy, and he's got a bunch of nakama to throw him into a tub when he gets too ripe.

Women-hating? That makes no sense. He's all WOMEN, MEN, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?!! I like how there's a contrast between his men-and-women-are-equal stance, and Sanji's MUST TREAT ALL WOMEN LIKE GODDESSES-chivalry crap. I've read a few Zorro/Sanji fic that actually played on that really well.

You've even got his tendency to very faintly elevate women in a way that's entirely different to Sanji - I mean, just the thing with Tashigi, really. He's utterly unable to harm anybody who he thinks is similar to that friend of his, but that's sort of to do with her senpai status, and her untouchability now she's dead - nothing whatsoever to do with her gender.

Is it just because he has a growly ne'r-do-well voice?

Tashigi is an exception. That's just her. Any other female who comes at him gets treated objectively as an opponent. Remember Ms. Monday?



His childhood basically involved the idea of needing to take women seriously as opponents beaten into him. The fact he probably would have ended up in love with the teacher of that lesson once puberty hit proper is the real reason Tashigi gets a pass.

The only mildly sexist thing I can think of is when somebody (I think it was Enel, the god guy in Skypeia) hit Robin and he went all "How could you do this to a woman?"
