Hey guys...I have a question. I failed the final exam in my math course that I need to graduate with an Associates...which means I have to stay for another semester for one course. At the moment, don't think I'll be able to afford it as my Mom is in the hospital again.

What do you guys do when you're really upset, to cheer yourself up? Do you have a go-to movie, television show, food?

Enchanted makes me smile, and watching the last 10 minutes of ep 5.01 of Doctor Who (or listening to the soundtrack, natch) usually do it for me.

I hope everything works out for the best for you <3

Hang in there.

My go-to cheer up movies are Spirited Away, Legally Blonde, First Wives Club and The Banger Sisters. Or if I'm going to watch a TV show I'm gonna go with Pride & Prejudice (also Lost in Austen). I also eat salt & vinegar chips or something really salty, but idk if that's your thing.
When I really hit rock bottom, I've been known to turn to vodka.

Best movie of the 90s IMO.

That sucks, anon. Um, let's see... watching select episodes of Star Trek (especially TOS), select episodes of Quantum Leap, this fucking adorable and awesomely absurd movie called "The Price of Milk." I like to eat Thai curry. Also, masturbation is good. I would say sex, but if I'm depressed I'm usually pretty drained and only have the energy for my own two handed exercise and fantasies.

Watching Red Dwarf or Sex and the City usually cheers me up. Also, Back to the Future or the first Pirates movie ..

I have four levels of comfort entertainment.

Level one, for mild sadness is My Immortal (because it's so incredibly stupid, it always makes me laugh and forget my problems).

Level two, for "I've had a shit day and now I feel like shit" is episodes of The Powerpuff Girls.

Level three, for "I've had a SUPER-shit day and now I feel like SUPER-shit" is Matilda (the book moreso than the movie).

Level four, for "I AM SO UPSET I WANT TO SMASH SOMETHING AND THEN CRY AND EAT A BATHTUB OF ICE CREAM" is any movie made by Mel Brooks (especially Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights).

Level five, for "I am seriously contemplating self-injury" is Singin' in the Rain or The Wizard of Oz.

...I meant to say FIVE levels, not four levels. Facepalm.

Well, I try not to drown in my own head. When that succeeds, however temporary, I can rely on box sets of shows or stream them online for some marathon escapism. Stuff like Venture Bros, Breaking Bad, X-Files, or whatever gets me invested in characters or silly plots. Picking up a free-to-play mmo can pass the time, like RO or Spiral Knights or whatnot. And I can go for a vigorous run or bike ride if the weather permits. It's mostly about keeping my mind or body busy (shit moods aren't conducive for hands-on hobbies that require actual creative thinking).

Also, I am one of those people who end up eating more (self-medicating with FAT), so I end up baking a bit. By "a bit" I mean a stupid amount. Especially lots of scones all up in here. Lots and lots of scones, because they're so easy, quick, and tasty to make despite the critical hit it can take to your flour supply. Plus I like washing dishes by hand, so the cleanup is an added stress relief exercise for me.

That sucks, I'm sorry.

Well, for cheesy fun I usually go for Mannequin, for quirky fun I go for Better Off Dead, for silly-ass fun, I go for Top Secret or Blazing Saddles.

For action fun, I go for True Lies, for fun with catchy songs, I go for Bedknobs and Broomsticks or Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang.

For happy ending romantic comedy, I go for While You Were Sleeping.

If I just want to laugh, I’ll watch stand-up specials. Eddie Izzard’s Dress to Kill is awesome. I also like Gabriel Iglesias, Kevin Hart, and Kathleen Madigan.

For TV shows, well, Friends can be very comforting. News Radio, Top Gear (UK), and As Time Goes By are all very different sorts humor, but they are all quite good.

Do you have a Satisfactory Academic Progress committee you can appeal to re: your financial aid?

Food! Then, study, study, study! And more food while studying. And some MMORPGs.

Listening to Disney music makes me smile. Just use pandora and make a Disney radio station.

Also, coloring. Everyone loves to color.

And food? Soup, nice, hot healthy soup.

Best show would be Ace of Cakes on Food Network.

TV-wise, I watch Community or Adventure Time when I'm down. They never fail to cheer me up. :p I also watch light-hearted period dramas or period-themed documentaries. (Like At Home With the Georgians, or The Supersizers...) Ooh, and Carebears!

Movies: Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Singin' in the Rain, and Master and Commander.

Food: lightly buttered popcorn, rustic veggie pizza, empanadas, or strawberry youhgurt topped with almonds. I try to at least eat yummy but healthy food when I'm down because that's the time I could easily fall into eating junky comfort foods.

*hugs OP* I hope you and your mother feel better soon, and that you're able to sort things out.
