Oh man, not a good idea. I know you can't exactly control who you crush on, but trying to force common interests doesn't make for even a good friendship. Wouldn't you be happier devoting all that time to stuff you actually like?

These days I find it difficult to write fic due to lack of inspiration and RL keeping me busy as heck...it's amusing to see that someone who's not even genuinely into anime/fandom/writing manages to do better.

Personally I think you're missing on a lot of genuine fun by just pretending to be invested in fandom but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

This reminds me of myself and video games. Not a fun experience. Finally, I just gave up because I really, really hate video games.

This was my entire personality in 8th grade. I mean, not video games, just trying to be into more stereotypically "boy" things and hating on stereotypically "girl" things to impress boys. It's a really good thing I grew out of that because a) it was unfun, stupid, and a waste of my time and b)lol, it did not work. At all.

Not the best idea, IMO. I have a friend who did this with another fandom to get closer to his then girlfriend, but when they had a pretty bad breakup it basically ruined those things for him and created bad associations. Not fun.

Okay Look, once upon a time, i was this same nerd, so take my advice:

You need more.

No relationship that will be any good will ever come with you being with somebody when you only have one thing to talk about. Fandom counts as one thing, all of your fandoms.

It's not a problem to have a relationship that starts with that, or have one that has you both entrenched in it, mind. But if you can only talk about anime with a person you want to be with... you will end up bored fast if you ever actually get with the person. Or worse, they will end up bored with you.

Soonr or later, you'll have said all you can say, and that awkward silence everybody hates starts to creep in. Unless you have another topic. Or Ten.

How much you both hate the cold. Food choices. Simple patter about your day. Something. Branch out in these conversations beyond the safe realm of the anime you know this person likes. If you end up noting having a lot in common... well shit, think about it.

There's also the fact that even if it does work out, you are presenting yourself as somebody you really aren't. This person has some idea of your tastes and likes that don't actually exist. That's... not so good.

You still have time to pull back if your just in "talking to crush" stage. Trust me, it's better to do so now.

I dated a guy like this once. He pretended to be into all the things I was into so that I would like him. It worked for a week or two before I caught on and dumped him. Good luck, OP.
