I think fandom's weird when you think about people that you knew already (meaning, did not know they were into fandom until they told you) being involved. It just bothers me for some reason. I <3 fandom, but I'm only really comfortable when it stays on the internet. I might be in the minority on this, however.

I understand; it kind of took me a while to accept that my little sister was involved in fandom. I LOVE fandom and it was still kind of weird!

Heh, my friend got involved in fandom recently. The weirdness of this is compounded by it not being a fandom I'm interested in and her talking about it with other people in real life who are not involved in fandom. I'm hoping it stops bothering me so much soon.
