It is. There's just an unseemly amount of hatred focused on (female) FemShep players because God only knows that no man can make his Sheploo into a speshul snowflake who is loved by all and feared by many. Oh, wait. That's EVERY SINGLE SHEPARD EVAR.

Depends on where you are. Lots of gaming fandom has corners where people resent women wanting to be a part of it, at least without shutting up and being entirely compliant with all rules and norms established by the very predominantly male fandom of times past. Other parts of gaming fandom are open to change as new members with new tastes, habits, and attitudes enter the fray, where you're not seen as some horrible attention whore for letting it slip that you're female, and you're not seen as "not a real gamer who comes in to kill the fun of real gamers" because you respond badly to sexist jokes and harassment.

Yeah that's not been my experience in the fandom actually; if anything it's slightly slanted in the opposite (I've seen more fem!Shep players admit to Control or Synthesis).
