Notes:

If you or anyone you know in fandom writes poetry, check this out. You may be being plagiarized. Note: Please do NOT hassle the publishing company itself. They've agreed to pull the book; we're waiting for it to come down from all the eBook sites. We still don't know the entire contents of the book, though - or who else has been stolen from (there is a clear fandom-author connection, however).

Personally, I hate it when adaptations are too true to the source material. If I wanted the exact story told in the books, I'd read them over again. But that's just me.

This!

I've just never understood the attitude of the source purist, even though it's been really prevalent in a lot of my fandoms. Especially when the showmakers have been given the go-ahead (or even explicitly asked) by the original creator to take the story in a different direction. Or when the creator of a WiP is mum about his/her plans for the untold parts of the story.

In the former case: I'm looking at you, Fullmetal Alchemist fandom. You wouldn't believe how vitriolic fans of the original manga could get towards the 2003 anime adaptation (and its fans), despite the fact that a) the mangaka was heavily consulted on its execution, to the point where she felt comfortable clarifying certain elements of its ending, and b) she explicitly asked the anime team to go in a very different direction.

Feels appropriate here as well, since GRRM is working with them, and probably has either okay'd or personally come up most of the changes. Sometimes authors like seeing something different or want to play around with a different idea. I mean, yeah, sometimes it's full-on Avatar territory and the adaptation really is horrible, but often, the changes are, if not improvements, at least interesting variations.
