mm.....whiny secret is whiny. just watch the movie, it's good.

Worrying that your depression is going to get the better of you is a legitimate thing and a scary place to be. I think any "whining" is completely justified. Thank you for being an ass.

I've been going through a rough time in my life. Leaving the theater in such a good mood made everything else a little more bearable.

I don't know if it will have the same effect on you, but I do recommend going to see it. It's a great film and a lot of fun.

I hope things get better for you, OP.

[identity profile] natural-blue-26.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. Being able to sit in the theater and squee with my sister certainly improved the last few weeks for me.

[identity profile] periariyx.livejournal.com 2012-05-14 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea how consoling it may be, but if you do go see it and like it, there's a lot more to look forward to. If all you saw was Thor, then there are four other movies directly tied into this one to watch, plus a bunch of other sequels in progress. And then there's the opportunity to move beyond the movieverse and take a look at the comics if you want. And from there, there's also a pretty massive fandom filled with endless works to keep things chugging along.

I'm not sure you could have picked a better movie to be interested in when it comes to having more things to look forward to.

I was just going to say this! Lots of good stuff yet to come!

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
this!!

[identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to say something like this too. They're going to make so many more movies after this one and I have faith that they're gonna be great too. You have a lot to look forward to, OP.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2012-05-14 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Just...go see it. Even if it won't lead to anything more (like friends), it will likely make you happy for the time you're watching it. Little steps, OP. Get your happiness wherever you can find it, however small or short...

I tend to be invisible in most fandoms too, and right now, I just read in the avengerskink meme but... if you want to watch it and have a friend to squee over it, mp me, anon :) Don't let depression get the best of you. And after Avengers, you'll probably want to see Avengers 2...

[identity profile] tasha-chan28.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
See it, at the end of the movie there's a sequel hook, not to mention there's sequels to Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America already in works.

[identity profile] raichu100.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I would recommend seeing the movie! I personally loved it and I'm not a really big movie-goer.

I hope you are able to feel better, OP, and get to a better place. ♥ I have been there and depression is horrible.

ETA: even if it doesn't feel like it now, I'm sure you will find something else to look forward to after seeing the movie! (The sequel, for instance - there's definitely going to be one. And I'm sure there will be other awesome things as well.)

There will definitely be more in this universe coming, so after you watch this, you'll still have things to look forward to.

But if the depression is knocking you that far down, talk to your doctor. Depression can be an illness of it's own, but it can also be a symptom of other physical problems. Thyroid imbalances, just to name one, or vitamin deficiencies, etc. Dealing with the problem on a medical level can make a big difference for you.

*hugs*

I generally recommend people don't get into something with fandom expectations because, in my experience, whether or not you enjoy the movie at a level that you would want to get involved with the fandom is entirely organic and unpredictable. However if you don't try the movie (or the show, book, comic, animation) you'll never know. I've been sucked into fandoms I've never suspected in a million years I'd be interested in. If you're concerned about your depression and think fandom is a good way to brighten your life don't stop there. Try everything and anything that catches your eye, or is recommended to you. Even if you end up not liking this particular movie there's tons of material out there that could grab you and fill your days with endless entertainment. Good luck.

OP here, thanks everyone for your kind words. I did go see it and enjoyed it and I'm just going to keep finding things to look forward to that I think I'll enjoy. I have been trying to be more active in the fandom. All the other fandoms I'm in are really small, so this is a lot easier for me. I am on depression meds but sometimes even they are not enough. But it was fun going to the cinema for a change.

I really hope that you do find more friends, but unfortunately friendships usually just happen, and if you're trying to force it, that's something people can often tell. Same with fandom- people know if you're in it for the love of the thing, or if you're in it just to bring attention to yourself (whether that attention is something you're actually in need of in your life). I don't think setting this movie up as the thing that's going to make you friends is a good idea. You might like it, you might dislike it, just if you look at it as your ticket to becoming happier, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. It might be a better idea to try to find friends through the hobbies you already have.

I think you should go see the damn movie if you think you'll like it. If you're worried about having nothing left to look forward to, might it help to find something else you're enthusiastic about as well? Something small and attainable, like another movie you want to see, or a book you're interested in reading, or a concert you want to attend. That way, however the movie works out for you, it won't be the only thing you've got.

it's okay, there's always more tasty shit to look forward to. Watch the movie! It makes everything seem brighter. (and you'll wanna see the sequels and the other movies in the Marvel series it's a part of, trust - there's gonna be at least 6 more of them)

[identity profile] mishey22.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
There's always the sequel, anon!

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2012-05-15 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Which part of the fandom are you most interested in OP? It's the friendliest I've ever been in so I'm sure I could rec you some places to check out?
