For some reason, this secret makes me think that there comes a time when AU fics stop being fanfic and start just being original fiction. And I think AU RPF might just about be it. And then I get grumpy, because why is there ofic in my fanfic? Bah.

Just me, then?

Not just you. I don't read RPF, but I've seen AU fics that have basically just character names in common with their source material. And it irks me. Just post it on a original fic or Shades of Grey it, but stop pretending it's fan fic.

some people actually take time to read up on people and try to understand their personality before writing fic. i say this as someone strongly involved in a fandom that is entirely rpf. it's not as easy as just throwing random people together and calling it fanfic, though i agree that there are many people who cheat and do just that.

but there are a good number of people that put effort into trying to keep their characters in character, notwithstanding them being real people.
