(Anonymous) 2012-05-17 12:26 am (UTC)(link)Even if the characters have fascinating worlds, I'm always interested in the characters. It's not even a shipping thing. I read a lot of gen, but I have to have the characters I love interacting with each other and solving problems.

Say, a fic set on the Enterprise where the cast is made up of OC ensigns who don't interact with the main characters, showing their POV of common experiences (or a particular event like Wolf 359 or any of the big Dominion battles or hell, the infestation in The Trouble With Tribbles) that the viewer usually sees only through the main characters' eyes. Or say OC kids coming into Hogwarts in the future, knowing about the adult trio's continuing heroics and hearing about the stuff the trio did way back in the canon books while they get up to their own escapades that compare and contrast them with the trio-era characters, and show how the trio-era events affected the future of Hogwarts and the wizarding world -- I tend to prefer shorter fics or serial fics for all-OC stories tbh, because I like them mainly for how they play off canon.
