I was wondering how long it would take someone to mention Pokemon.

I rarely look for Pokemon fic these days, but when I do, I almost always look for things that focus on OCs. The world-building possibilities are what drew me into the Pokemon fandom. I could care less about most of the canon characters, especially the ones from the anime.

I like a few of the characters (okay, pretty much just N and Bianca) but original trainer stories can be really fun, too. I mostly play Pokemon for the pokemon, and it seems like the original trainer stories are the only ones that really have anything to do with pokemon themselves. So I don't read only original trainer, but I do like those too.

Hate to be that girl, but do you have any recs? I've read a few good ones, but as with anything involving OCs, it can be hard to find the gems among the "look, this character is me and I am so cool and important!"

I like N and Bianca (and Cheren) too, but I think most of the fic involving them is shipping-oriented, and I don't care enough about shipping to bother with it.

Oh man, it's been years since I read much Pokemon fic. My favorite original trainer story is Clouded Sky by Negrek (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2146127/1/Clouded_Sky). It's still being updated, albeit slowly. Most of Negrek's one-shots are pretty good too, and they tend to focus on the Pokemon more than the humans.

I liked Deus Ex Pokéball (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3540712/1/Deus_Ex_Pokeball) when I read it, though I don't remember much about it right now. It focuses on an OC, but it's not really a "trainer journey" story. It also focuses on the Arceus creation myth and gets into some Pokemon theology, so it may not be for everyone. Read a few pages and see if you like it.

I also enjoyed Choice and Consequence by purple-drake (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3407004/1/Choice_and_Consequence), which is a story about a Team Magma OC. Sadly, it appears to be abandoned now. Most of purple-drake's Pokemon fic is good, though a lot of it does focus on canon characters. (Their Lance stories are what got me into reading Pokemon fic with canon characters.)

And that's all I have right now, sorry. D: Everything else on my favorites list is from years and years ago. It appears that I forgot to bookmark some of the good stuff I read more recently.

I am guilty of the "look at me, I'm so cool!" trainer OCs. There's something about Pokemon that makes those stories fun to write, even if you know that other people won't be interested in reading them.
