I do something like this, but I don't use it for anything personal - I use it to update where I am writing wise. Especially if it's been a while since I've written anything I figured it might be nice for anyone who might be waiting to see that "I started Chapter X" or "Chapter Y is 80% done and should be up next week" or whatever.
