People from the Maritimes have very distinctive accents. Newfoundland, anyone?

Apart from that, we sound mostly the same. There are some (amusing) regional variations. Soda vs. pop, for example.

Same with America- soda vs. pop vs. soda pop vs. everything was Coke in where I lived Texas. As in:

"Want a Coke?"
"Sure."
"What kind?"
"Dr. Pepper." etc

Hmm, that's interesting! We do that with some brands too... Kleenex for tissue, skidoo for snowmobile, etc.

I'm fairly sure Kleenex has won the brand turf war forever on that eeeeeeeverywhere lol

lol I have to agree. One brand to rule them all, one brand to find them...

I honest to God didn't realize Kleenex wasn't the actual name for tissues until I asked for some in England and my flatmate giggled at me.

Interestingly, a lot of people I know here in the southeastern US just call it "Coke."

"I'm going to the store, do you want a Coke?"

"Yeah, get me a Dr Pepper."

Now THAT is successful branding lol. As I said above, Canadians do that with some brands too... Kleenex for tissue, skidoo for snowmobile, etc. Not sure how common those are.

Just calling tissue "Kleenex" is pretty common here, too. In fact, I don't remember the last time I ever heard anybody call it "tissue."

Here in Australia, a marker pen is a "texta" and an ice lolly/popsicle is an "icy pole".

That's really cool! I plan on visiting Australia some day, so it's awesome to get a heads-up about these things. :-)
