How does Sherlock being asexual suddenly prevent any of his relationships with other characters being interesting though? Many asexuals are in committed relationships and if anything there are problems and dynamics that have rarely if ever been explored in TV or film yet. How would a couple where only one partner is asexual find a good middle ground? What pressures would an asexual character face both from their partner and from the outside world? I really lose a lot of respect for a writer who sees a character without sexual attraction and finds no potential.

Exactly. In fact, in this case, Sherlock being asexual would be MORE interesting. If he's just abstaining, he could just... start having sex. But if he honestly doesn't want sex, how would he and a partner who was sexual deal with that?

ITA; it would be very interesting to see issues like this explored. There is so much potential!

And Moffat seems to only consider (romantic) relationships to be of value if there is sex, so... yeah. I usually avoid reading his interviews so I can still enjoy his works. XD

To be fair to Moffat, that's hardly an unusual viewpoint in the media; or society in general, for that matter.

Touché! I really should cut him some slack; he's hardly the only one out there with this mindset.

Yeah, exactly.

I'm actually not surprised about his opinions since most people do have those mindset, I'm more surprised that he did write a good Sherlock that could easily be asexual while he himself believes asexuals are boring. He's a good writer and I have to stop reading his interviews so I can enjoy his works without being irked by his personal opinions.

Well, I can't say I'm personally interested in any of that, but that's all right. YMMV. I can see how it would be interesting for others, particularly asexuals tired of their invisibility.
