Carrie ♥ Completely agreed: she's such a fantastic, complex character.
(Also, I seriously need to upload some Homeland icons.)

I'd make an argument for Starbuck (RDM) being another great strong-but-flawed female character. YMMV, of course.

I've never seen this show, but the one thing that made me love the Hunger Games trilogy was the fact that Katniss, the lead, was a strong female character who was full of flaws and eventually had to deal with a complete mental breakdown.

What's it about, if you don't mind me asking? I think I've heard it mentioned in passing, but never actually what it's about.

It's about an American POW from the Iraq war coming home and an agent who suspects him of being an operative for Al Qaeda. Carrie is the agent and she's got a lot of sides to her that bring her abilities into question, but she is also very good at what she does. There's a great storyline about the POW as well; it explores how his family is affected by his return and things that happened to him and to his family in his absence. A pretty intense and really well-written, twisty drama.

Wow, that's pretty intense...but also awesome. I totally should check it out! Thank you!

I don't know this show or character, but I agree with this secret anyway. I love strong-but-flawed characters; I actually find them more empowering, because they're just as human as I am, and it's easier to take examples from a character who's imperfect but still gets by just fine. Empowerment doesn't necessarily mean kicking someone's teeth in at the slightest provocation; it can be as simple as someone showing you that you're not alone, or not wrong for doing/thinking a certain way, or helping you realize how to take charge of your own life in some way.

My heroes as a teenager (and to this day!): Sailor Jupiter and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. :D

Carrie is amazing.

That's all I really have to say about this. Just ♥

(I wish that Homeland had a fandom. I would read ALL the Carrie/Brody).

+1

Carrie is a fantastic character, I'd love to see more strong but flawed female characters as well!

Haven't watched the series, but agreed with this secret. I specially love when said characters learn from their mistakes and they become a better character because of it.

I tend to love all different types of female characters but I agree that Carrie is fantastic and Claire Danes brings such a raw vulnerability to the role.

I love this show, and I love the way Claire Danes plays Carrie. I can't wait for it to start up again.

I actually think it's more sexist to have only ~strong and sassy~ female characters who of course, all look great. Male characters are allowed to be butt ugly, have flaws and be idiots sometimes. Female characters are not most of the time. The trouble is: A lot of females who think they are oh so feminist would raise hell if, god forbid, a female character was actually not completely empowered and awesome. That's sad.

Homeland secret! Yussssssssssss!

I agree with you. So much.
