(To be honest, my thought process was roughly the exact same as yours, which is partially why I posted the picture. Also, I'm also really scared of spiders [though it's not a phobia], so this is kind of helping me too.)

I know it's an actual therapy (which to be fair involves more than what's going on here), but I kinda can't believe the effect simple desensitization has. It's like the more pics I look at the incrementally less awful I find the images. LOL Now, IDK how that will translate into real life as I have not encountered a RL arachnid in some time.

That is true, though I feel like I should point out that I'm (trying to) pick the pictures that I think/hope other people will think are pretty cute, and not all the spiders in the world are. BUT, if it helps, it helps. Yay! <3

Thank you. I've made some missteps, but on the whole, I think I've been pretty lucky. (And this (http://adorablespiders.tumblr.com/) tumblr blog helps tremendously.)

Unfortunately, Cute Animal Anon (non-Anon?) lives in an apartment where no pets are allowed (except fish), and thus cute animal anon has a crown-tail betta fish.

Mine's name is Forge, he's lovely. Though, I do plan on having cats someday.

I don't think I've ever seen that kind of fish. Very, very striking. Forge is a great name (is that an HP reference? or perhaps a metal-smithing reference?)

I have two cats--Tweek and Electra. I feel your pain on the whole apt. not letting you have animals thing. We've had the cats 13 and 14 years, respectively, and have had to plan our living arrangements around them (having moved 4 times in that time period).

Betta fish are, and they're actually very fascinating. I mean, did you know that most people take care of them wrong? Betta fish are actually tropical fish, so when they don't have a heater, their metabolism slows the hell down, and they eat too much without swimming around, and they die more quickly. Also, they like to swim to the top of the tank, so you shouldn't get them a tank that's too tall (especially when they have larger fins), because then they can't swim to the top, and they are sad.

Kind, of yes! Actually, Forge is my second Betta. My first was Fred, but I got him the fish flakes, and I guess those are bad for them, because they expand in fish's stomachs, and make them sick, at least, they make Betta's sick, because Betta's have small stomachs.

So, after Fred died, and I got another one, and named him Forge. Partially for Harry Potter, and partially because he's all blue, but his two front fins are bright red, and I thought it looked really cool, two pieces of metal being forged.

I do plan on someday living in a cat-friendly place. That's actually my dream, owning a house with cats. Maybe fostering them, even. And really... That's all I'm working forward to, right now, saving up money so I can buy my own (cat friendly) house.

Heeee. No worries. :) I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want to know. I've been enjoying getting to know people in this comm since I started reading/participating a few weeks ago.

I know nothing about fish. I've never had any. But I can easily imagine that people take care of them wrong. There are so many misconceptions about caring for most animals, and if you don't do the research you really hurt the pet.

I love that the name is about both those ideas. Very cool.

I have a couple friends who foster cats on the friend's list and they find it very rewarding. I love hearing their stories about helping cats find good homes and showing cats love who weren't getting it before.

I had had Betta's before, but I had never taken care of them properly, as I had them when I was really young, and I just took care of them like I had heard you took care of them, instead of doing research into them. It's fascinating.
