Yeah. Reed gets away with so much more shit

Now for those who are wide eyed right now, Sue was actually a supervillianess named Malice in this particular panel. She also got manipulated into being crazy for a bit there. Reed wasn't. Reed was fully sane and unmanipulated when he decided the best way to fix his mind-altered wife was to give her shit and smack her around till she hated him (it makes sense in context, albiet is still horrible)

It worked. It actually worked.

Now, it was an extreme solution to an extreme situation. But on the one hand, we go a guy who was at best only partialy in control of his actions who kinda sorta accidentally backhanded his wife.

On the other hand, we got a guy smacking around a woman who was at best only partially in control of her actions!

How on earth is guy one the guy known for beating his wife to the point where his ultimates incarnation is actually made what everybody called him?

And then, as you mentioned, in this spiderman panel... Everybody was sane and in full control of their actions (except the writers)! And Mary Jane is pregnant! Now granted, this was during a storyline so unpopular nobody wants to remember it exists, but for fuck sakes! Pym is looking better and better, right?

It's not about looking better. It's about picking and choosing what parts of continuity are remembered.

While you can excuse Reed's action during the Malice arc, there's also the fact that he belittles Sue all the time. Check Civil War (horribly written, granted, but there it is), or the Infinity War crossover where Sue demonstrates that she's a very capable leader, saves REed... and yet Reed is only concerned with the fact that she's showing too much skin.

Hank Pym hit his wife ONCE. During a story where the writer has said that he never intended for it to be an actual hit. And he memetically turned into a wife beater.

Clint Barton divorced his wife because he couldn't forgive the fact that she didn't save her rapist. And no one calls him a rape-apologist.

I just don't get that cherry-picking of canon.

What the heck is even going ON in that last panel? It looks like Herne decided to leap through a window into someone's house.
