Someone please make a tutorial about font choices/wall o' texts/legibility/background image selection, etc. Week after week, we get terrible designs and it's sad, because most of the people here are not going to bother with unreadable tl;dr.

There's not much to say:

Put the text in an empty, solid background, make sure the background and the text don't clash or merge. (Background blue, font red? CLASH. Background red, font green? CLASH. Background light-green, font white? MERGE.) (I'm afraid you'll have to use your Common Sense for this.)

If you're going to save as JPG, make sure you don't use primary colors (red: #f00, green: #0f0, blue: #00f), because it's a COMPRESSED IMAGE format, which makes text look like crap. Add font borders.

If your background is not solid, put fucking borders around the font.

If you're using shitty software with no font borders, write the text, then up the size a couple of notches, put as bold, dark solid color; clone the text, down-size it, remove bold, put a lighter color. You have hand-made bordered fonts!

Image editors do not show the FINAL PRODUCT (what you'll torture us with), so open the fucking final image outside the editor, to see if you can read the crap you wrote. (Preferrably, have a friend try to decypher it.)

To me, it's simple. Keep it short, sweet, and straight to the point. If not possible then find a 600 x 600 pixel pic and use white/black color for text. 'Nuff said.
