Why would anyone want to woobify Starscream or give a reason for him being an ass? In any gen. I love Starscream, but I love him because he is such a complete and total asshole, who is supremely unbothered by this fact (almost to the point of being narcissistically proud of it). The only way Starscream should be a woobie is that if he thought acting like one would make it easier to slide a knife into the woobifier's back (and even then, halfway though the woobie-ing he'd stop to brag and monologue about what a great woobie he makes, and how he can't believe the woobifier is falling for it). That's Starscream.

I share your opinion of this matter.

But then, I'm the person who wrote fanfic of Starscream acting all woobie so Optimus would awkwardly attempt comfort sex JUST SO STARSCREAM COULD LAUGH AT HIM AND MAKE HIM FEEL AWFUL.

Because I think that's hilarious what Starscream would do. If you're gonna poke fun at bad h/c*, might as well do it with style :-)

*again, it's not all bad. There's one fic that was rather well-known that was about OP saving him from Megatron's abuse that was actually really good. But a lot of it's nowhere near as good, and takes away the dickishness that makes SS so awesome.

Wasn't there an episode of Beast Wars that had that for its intire plot? Starscream came back as a ghost just to fuck with a new megatron and prime.

Not a ghost exactly, his spark is immortal due to some odd mutation. It's everlasting and apparently industructable, never joining the matrix, though his body can be destroyed. He ended up possessing waspinator, getting on the team by virtue of "I'm significantly less incompetant than Waspinator, and I can use personal pronouns!" and of course, starting a plot with Black Arachnia to depose Megatron about 10 seconds after he was let on the team (seriously, like seconds later she approached him all "you're full of shit" and he was all "Yep. And you didn't call me on it back there, so you want in, don't you?")

Starscream floats for untold cycles as a bodyless mass, and remains as true to himself as ever. His dickishness is eternal!
