...You do know Avatar was inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki, right? That's it's referred to as an "American Anime"? That its anime-esque elements are intentional and obvious?

Saying you like Avatar and then bashing anime is like saying you like Pixie Sticks and then complaining about people who like the taste and texture of sugar.

Just so you know, I'm an avid anime fan, but I also love me some Danny Phantom and Mulan remains one of my favorite Disney movies ever.

Generalizations suck.

iawtc.

I've met a few elitist anime fans who refuse to watch or draw anything else. In fact, I used to be one of them.. >_< I love anime, but I'm glad I opened up to the other things out there.

But the point of Avatar is that it takes the base principles of anime and improves drastically upon them (esp in animation).

It's more like complaining about people who like sugar and then eating cake.

Not to imply Miyazaki isn't worthy, because he totally is.

...You must not be watching the same anime I've been watching, because as great as Avatar's animation is, I've seen better. Much better. But then, I don't watch most "mainstream" anime, so I guess it's not a big surprise.

It's better animation than the majority of anime. Not so much the motion capture, but in that whole cels don't sit still for long periods of time while characters speak. If there's one thing American animation is great at, it's never being stagnant.
