True. But it's still the biggest ship in the fandom, and plus my friends are all over it. It's almost impossible for me to ignore it.

I never got the trend in K-Pop fandom where shipping=tinhatting. I've seen it a lot in 1D fandom too, so maybe it is a boy band thing? I don't really care if my ship is real or not. I'm shipping the idol personas, not the real people.

I am so right there with you. It's especially weird to me with idols who are really obvious an upfront about having public personas. It's like, guys, they're putting on a show. It has nothing to do with who they actually are.

That's kind of my dillema. On one hand, I do know it's just their persona, but on the other hand I still don't feel comfortable reading fics which are supposedly based on real people and their real life affairs. Plus, the way some of my friends keep showing me the 'evidence' of their 'relationship' doesn't make me feel any better about it :/

I kind of have the same problem. I don't ship RPF but I ship people on the Daily Show and the Colbert report. I know I'm just reading fic about personas, but it still feels a little weird.

i used to tinhat the ever loving fuck out of my otps but im so embarrassed about it now, esp now that i have a stronger understanding of korean relationships. its fine to ship them op, at one point almost the entire fandom believed they had smth together but the fact they arent and never have been together (there is like a .00000001% chance they ever did smth together) shouldnt make you feel guilty or uncomfortable shipping themt. just be thankful stans arent as bad these days as larry stylinson stans are lol.

I find the tinhatting embarrassing because of how it impacted them and how they ended up doing fanservice to please fans and whatnot... tbh most of the big tinhat pairings in K-pop get like that because of fan pressure and I have to wonder if it put strain on their RL friendship. That's got to be one of the biggest things that skeeves me out about K-pop fandom, tbh, the tinhatting isn't just harmless fangirling among fans, it goes out to affect what idols have to do onstage and in variety shows etc... I expect some idols are chill with fanservicing, but I don't get the impression Yunjae ever were (not that it's relevant now, I guess)... it's kind of invasive, though.

I don't know but you sound... very sane to me. I'm a little surprised that the serious side of shipping YunJae is still going? I mean, the finding evidence part. I don't think there's anything wrong with shipping it even though I agree with the reasons you gave - shipping in this case is fictional, so fic reading and writing etc doesn't need to stop. Mind you, going by the first line of your secret it sounds like you're a little over it anyway.

Yes, it's still going. My friend keeps telling me things like 'don't tell anyone, but Yunho called Jaejoong when he's in the hospital. They're totally still in love!' and sends me links and pictures that's supposed to prove their relationship. It's fun in the beginning, but it's getting a bit too disturbing. I'm over them now because of the reasons in the secret above, but I can't tell that to my friends. I don't think they'll appreciate me saying that I think they're only seeing things, and they'll laugh if I say I can't read fics anymore because I feel guilty.

Yeah not gonna lie, part of the fun of shipping is finding little bits of 'evidence' here and there - but it's just that: fun. It should be silly and make you giggle. I've always told myself, The day I take Kpop seriously is the day I leave the fandom.

It's a shame you don't read fics any more but I think that's... normal... I had one OTP my friends and I thought were real and then ten years later some new canon came up that kind of dashed it and killed my boner. But also, it was ten years later so my attachment to that ship had waned considerably.

Yeah, it's definitely fun. It's just that IMO in YunJae fandom, the fun has turned into creepy, like that one time my friend showed me a picture of what's supposed to be the receipt for Jaejoong's gift for Yunho. Even if it's not real, it's just not right. The fans' obsession honestly sucks the fun out of shipping it (at least for me).

I still read fics sometimes, but not YunJae. I avoid them at all costs nowadays. Now I mostly read HoMin because the fans are far less obsessive and I think they look hot(ter than YunJae) together. But that's another secret for another time :D

Oh dear, that receipt =/ Yes I can understand that. Shipping aside, I'm not a huge fan of finding out about their private lives to be honest, as like you, it gives me the heeby-jeebies and makes me feel guilty, and I don't find it fun. I do like learning about their working lives though, through their promo stuff like off-shoot movies, but as soon as fans share private information it gets too much for me, even though I think a lot of that info that gets leaked to ifandom is probably 80% bullshit. Also you can tell when they get photographed leaving restaurants and stuff they don't look happy to be stalked.

Oh yes as you can probably tell from my icon I like HoMin a lot =D I think its shippers are sort of lucky to be not quite but almost post-YunJae so they've learnt not to make certain assumptions and mistakes, and I know that if I read 'homin is real' I I can trust it's only hyperbole. But of course it's got its own 'evidence' too; I remember spaghetti carbonara, my friends and I went a bit spastic over that. And then of course when B&L first came out... lol. But it's all just fun, you can tell they're having a ball with it, especially Yunho.

I agree with everything you said, OP.

I have a feeling if you were to post this secret over at the tumblr blog "Kpopsecrets," you would get a flood of delusional fans (possibly trolls?) barking like rabid dogs that Jaejoong x Yunho are real. Thank god the fans here at "Fandomsecrets" are more sane.
