The man lived in the US from when he was 9 years old to 22 years of age and then again off and on. As someone has mentioned, he has dual citizenship with the US and the UK.

Well I'd say he's more British really, given the 3/4 of his life spent in Britain. But he does use the American accent for professional reasons, privately he has a Scottish accent. Which I prefer on him, but we don't hear it often, just in outakes and when he made that documentary and was with his family.

Well he alternates countries a lot for different reasons but yeah he does use his Scottish accent sometimes, mostly around his family, I know that it freaks Scott out because he's not used to it.

John, Scott, and John's parents came into the store where I work once. While he was looking at Scott or the cashier, he had the American accent, but when he looked at his parents, the Scottish accent came out.

It was just. The best.

But which American accent?

And Barrowman has a strange one. One moment it sounds like it is from Illinois and then it goes to SoCal and finally Scottish. His accent goes to more places in a sentence than most people have gone in a lifetime.

As a life-long SoCal resident who went to college in Chicago, I have to say I've NEVER heard a SoCal accent from JB. He definitely sounds Midwestern/Illinois to me. Some Scottishy bits and UK vocabulary, but nothing remotely Californian imo.

This reminds me of the sort of things I hear about my accent having spent equal amounts of times in Massachusetts, Texas, and the Philippines as well as having a southern parent and a New Jersey parent. When you have a mixed accent that isn't really distinctly from one area or another, everyone things you have the other group's accent.

He gave me a modesty/layered clothing fetish. That scene when Gwen walked in on him and Ianto actually made me almost jump out of my skin with want. I had to pause the whole thing until I calmed down.

I really don't like those American accents where they pinch the vowels, Like where it sounds like they're saying "think you" when they say "thank you"

I live on Long Island, and for the most part I absolutely LOVE my town (rundown little suburb that people delight in calling "ghetto" even though it's not, a lot of shabby underdog appeal, very diverse, close enough to the city, close to the beach, gahh I love this shithole <3) but I HATE NY ACCENTS. I mean, I have one (that I'm trying very hard to supress) but seriously, hatehatehate. I really love every other accent I've heard (a lot of people around here hate Southern accents, but I think they're pretty sexy to be honest) and I hate that I got stuck with this one.

I moved out to Long Island after growing up in the midwest and literally spent a week thinking everyone was shouting at me. XD It was kind of disconcerting to realize that I wasn't about to get a beatdown, they just wanted to know if I wanted fries with that.

Strangely enough, the longer I live out here, the more I like the accents...

Yay LI! Compared to most of the people around me I don't have a strong accent. But sometimes it just rears its orange-tanned, bleach-blond head, especially if I'm annoyed or ordering a cawfee. XD I don't mind it, though. When I lived in upstate NY, hearing a LI or NYC accent reminded me of home in a nice way.
