Does anyone know any movies/TV series that feature (prominently) a happy gay or lesbian couple? I just want two people cuddling and kissing and being in love and not have to go through 90 minutes of angst and homophobia until I get my two minute happy ending and then credits.

I'll take youtube clips if I have to.

Queer as Folk has couples like that, particularly Mel/Lindsey and Michael/Ben. Brian/Justin can be cuddly sometimes too xD

I'm not a huge fan of Queer as Folk. I was a Michael/Brian shipper back in the day, which obviously didn't work out too well for me. :P And with Michael/Ben I could never get over the steroid addiction. (That was Ben, right?)

But even shipping aside, there was always something that rubbed me a bit wrong with QaFUS. (Not that the UK version was all that much better. /unpopular opinion) But thanks for the suggestion, anyway!

I was a Ted/Emmett shipper until it was ruined, so I can relate to you with Michael/Brian xD Yeah, that was Ben with the steroids. I liked Michael/Ben, but I wasn't really a shipper. I enjoy QaF, but it definitely has its issues. When I just take it as a fun soap opera, I love it.

I think Modern Family? There's a happy gay couple, and then they happily adopt a little girl. And are happy. That's about all I know of that show but I don't think it has a lot of angst?

Thanks for the suggestion! I just checked it out on wikipedia, and it really does seem to be rather angst free. :)

Jumping in to say that Modern Family is an excellent show. I've only seen the first half of season 1 but it's absolutely hilarious. Hope you enjoy!

I was gonna say Imagine Me & You but then I remembered the couple only gets to cuddle/kiss for two minutes during the ending, even if they do spend the majority of the movie being obsessed about each other.

There's always The Birdcage, But I'm a Cheerleader (YMMV on the level of angst/homophobia), Touch of Pink (again, YMMV), Mulholland Drive, D.E.B.S., Love My Life andI Love You Phillip Morris. Sorry, those are all that come to mind atm. I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting.

Also might I rec the series Sugar Rush? The first season doesn't have a "happy couple", but the second season does, and the ending is pretty good.
Also Six Feet Under.

[identity profile] hunterwithcause.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I only know But I'm a Cheerleader of those, I'll definitely check out the others. Thanks for the suggestions! :)

You're welcome!

(Anonymous) 2012-06-01 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's the only one I know of that list, but The Birdcage's awesome!! I love it so much, so I'll endorse the recommendation. As a bonus, let me tell you that you'll get to see some hilarious drag by the end of it ;)

Six Feet Under, while awesome, is like the total opposite of angst-free. O_o

[identity profile] ooh-mrdarcy.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well I wouldn't call it the opposite of angst-free, but they did have good/happy scenes together + happy ending (sort of - their union had a happy ending). Idk, I think it was a perfect mix of both? Mind you, it's been years since I watched it and I didn't watch all episodes so I could be wrong. But overall I'd say it was a more positive relationship than a negative one, and compared to the other couples on the show they were a success imo.

D.E.B.S. is amazing <3

Though Six Feet Under gets pretty dark later on the series, as I understand it. [I'm speaking of the series as a whole though, so idk if that's something they'd really be interested in?

[identity profile] ooh-mrdarcy.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have pretty dark humor myself, but I could definitely see why someone would get turned off by Six Feet Under.
There were some really cute episodes there, but I guess it's still pretty emotionally draining...

Idk, it's been so long since I last watched, and my memories tend to grow sweeter with time.

[identity profile] 1337nik.livejournal.com 2012-06-01 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Buffy after mid - season four has warm squishies. For a while anyway. (Also the opposite of angst - free though.)

(Anonymous) 2012-06-01 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's been awhile since I've seen Breakfast with Scot, but it's got a happy couple. It's not entirely drama free, but the drama isn't really about gay angst IIRC.
