Came here to say THIS.

Seriously, anyone who hasn't seen Thor do watch it. I think it's a lot more sympathetic from the Loki POV than The Avengers, even more so when you see a couple of the deleted scenes. It's not the best of the lead-in films it has to be said, but eh, I enjoyed it for what it was.

What would you say is the best of the lead-in films? I'm still deciding on a watching order. :P

Hijacking this conversation to say Iron Man. As an added bonus it's also the first of the lead-in films (if you ignore The Incredible Hulk, which it is almost unanimously agreed that you should do).

Ditto the above poster: Iron Man hands down. All the awesomeness of the Avengers has its roots in Iron Man.

But Captain America is a not-too-distant second IMO (and such a great change of pace, goddamn).

I respectfully disagree about Captain America. While Iron Man is definitely the best lead in, I found that Captain America dragged in places and the villain was sub-par. I rate Thor a little higher because while it didn't reach up to its full potential (romance aspect, I'm looking at you) it keep my attention the whole way through and didn't take itself too seriously.
