I mentioned this in a previous comment, but whether or not the favoritism actually existed doesn't matter. Loki believed Odin favored Thor, and that's the important thing. Loki is very insecure, and it's possible that he was projecting his feelings onto others. I'm not saying Loki's emotions are rational, just that they exist and motivate him. And I don't think Odin was a particularly good father to Loki. Definitely not the worse, but he could have done better. That's just my personal opinion, though (I'll admit that I dislike Odin in the movie and even more so in the comics, so I'm probably biased.)
