I always felt that way about Narnia. Seriously man, you're KINGS AND QUEENS OF A FANTASY REALM! Why would you go back to being some English kid? All your greatest friends are there! You have your big fuzzy giant lion friend! Adventures! Never going back, man!

I wanted to go to Narnia so badly as a kid... less now that I've absorbed all the creepy Christian and racist elements but still. Nostalgia.

They didn't mean to go back, if I remember rightly. They'd forgotten their former selves, and one day while hunting in the woods they came across the lamppost, and were all, "Methinks I recall this thing from somewhere... it's called a lamp... post....thing?", and then they felt like they were being called and blundered off out of Narnia. But yes, once they stepped out of the wardrobe and remembered everything properly it must've been the facepalm to end all facepalms.
