the gratuitous nudity is inclusive of all different kinds of bodies.

I wouldn't go so far as to say THAT... I can't think of any nude scenes where the people without clothes have had enough extra weight on them to qualify for even the smallest sizes Lane Bryant sells... or the largest sizes Hot Topic does.

BUT... one thing I'll grant in this case is that there's a certain degree of realism to that, given this is a world that is difficult to live in, proper nutrition is not a common luxury, and even women born into nobility are clearly accustomed to a certain degree of physical exertion on a daily basis. As a noble, I would imagine that even if you do have enough food to eat, traversing all the stairways and long halls and giant rooms in the mansions and castles you live in would keep you fairly fit.

That said, the variety of (admittedly slender) body-types is something I also noticed and am impressed by. Most shows and movies these days have a very distinct tendency to show off surgery- or CG-enhanced chestmelons if a lady is asked to remove her upper garments. The women in Game of Thrones, while all on the low end of the BMI scale, DO seem to all have the chests given to them by God. The prevalence of obviously unenhanced tits on the show leads me to conclude that it's almost impossible for the producers or directors or whomever NOT to be doing it on purpose.

Not only do I approve of this from the point of view of an enlightened individual who understands that Jessica Rabbit doesn't really NEED to be the sole standard for what every "attractive" woman should look like, I approve of it from the point of view of an individual who enjoys tits. All of them. A-cup to X-cup, symmetrical or not, regardless of color or size or prominence of nipples or diameter of areola, the tits of a human female are creations blessed with glorious perfection. There is no such thing as an unsexily-flawed human female breast (with the obvious exception of... you know.... open wounds or whatever...).

So I like the show not just for maintaining a level of realism by showing that no one in this fictional world has access to breast-enhancements, but also, PRIMARILY, for maintaining a level of realism by showing that a woman can be DAMN sexy and incredibly desirable no matter what her tits look like. Just having them makes them perfect.

And for me personally, I look forward to seeing people portrayed as sexually desirable drag kings or queens, hermaphrodites, trans men or women at every stage of their transitions, and every bloody thing else human sexuality and gender identity can dream up.

Yes, I went a little too far with that statement - I tend to have a rosy perspective on things and get over-excited about small things. What I should have said is that there is more inclusion of natural variation of women's bodies than in most shows, as you've pointed out. Like you, I enjoy all of the natural boobs instead of implants. I hope that the popularity of this show increases the sorts of people we see being portrayed as sexy on more TV shows.

Are the people on the show really that thin? Unlike most shows full of plastic Hollywood actors and actresses, Game of Thrones features bodies that look like mine/people I see on the street everyday (and I've always thought of myself as being on the curvier side of medium build when compared to my friends and neighbors). Granted, I live in an upper-middle-class Northern Californian neighborhood where the vast majority of people have access to good food, nutrition education, and gym memberships, so this could be my privilege skewing my perspective.

Well, yeah, there's variety among people who are pretty much all thin women and muscular men.

Now me... I was born and raised in Washington DC, on the far end of one side of Embassy Row. My city's residential population is around 70% african-american, there are always tourists all over the place, there are always people here from overseas visiting or WORKING... where I live, you can get on a bus and hear 5 different languages being spoken in a 20 minute ride. There is no consistent race, age, or body type among the people I see every day.

But... Westeros is not Washington DC. I know that. I'm not really about to make a big damn deal about there being no larger women in the whorehouses and no plaster-white stick-figure guys with coke-bottle glasses in the houses of the nobility.

I think basically what I'm saying is I'm with you in noticing that the show DOES have a really well-cast variety among the characters you see. It's not as diverse as where I live, but... not a lot of places are. XD

I live in the Seattle area (ish... I'm technically down in Olympia, but Seattle isn't that far away) and on any given day if I go out, I see a wider range of body types. Game of Thrones is definitely better than a lot of shows in that it doesn't allow only Hollywood-skinny body types, but it's not representative of what you would see in the real world either. It's a wider range, but it's still not as wide as the real world, but I do think that it's deserving of recognition because TV and Hollywood in general are so badly skewed toward one body type and only one. With Game of Thrones, at least I do see body types that I see commonly IRL. The difference is there's not really any representation of the upper end of the weight spectrum; there aren't really any fat women. Average to slightly overweight, yes, but not fat.

But ... I still think it's a step in the right direction, too. They could do better. But they're already doing better than Hollywood in general, and I do think it's important to recognize that, even if it would be nice if they would do more!
