Not being an SJWarrior here, but a white person would be called racist if the situation were inverted so, yeah, double standard. It's nice that the OP is aware of that, instead of saying "la la, I'm not white so I'll broadcast borderline racist thoughts with nary a second thought".

racism = prejudice + power

not that hard to grasp.

Racism, definition: "hatred or intolerance of another race or races."

Not that hard to grasp.

No, I agree, but I don't think it's that racist from white people in similar scenarios, either. White people aren't allowed to say this, though, which I don't really think helps. It just makes the whole thing a taboo subject that nobody can say anything about. I think it'd be better if we could go into a situation like this able to admit out loud, when necessary, that we will make mistakes but will try very hard not to. It might even help people get past this stage faster, if you get something like this where most folks are saying to OP, "We have trouble telling them apart, too. Don't worry." So then, these two get mentally classified as It's not just me; they are legit similar looking, and the mind can build up reference points of familiarity that much faster. All because, by talking about it, the person can get the benefit of perceptions that are familiar with the group they are working to acclimate to.

Maybe that's just my wide-eyed idealism here, but I just feel like it'd be easier on everyone if we could all admit what we struggle with instead of everybody pretending they aren't struggling at all. Making all this taboo doesn't seem to have helped very much.
