Ah, see, I still haven't seen the last few episodes of the anime. ^^ I liked the fact that Light basically lost by *accident* in the manga--for all that Near tried to credit Mello with having consciously taken part in Light's defeat (people always *will* see design or intent behind complete accidents if they really want to). I think it, or the circumstances of his death which uncovered Light's plan to Near, really works better taken for the sheer chance that it was. And I liked that the way Light finally died should be, as it was in the manga, not peaceful or resolved but hideously silly and pathetic. Not so much because Light 'deserved' it (though he rather *did* :3) but because this fit best with the underlying idea of the whole story: the end is the same for every one, and the most phenomenal intelligence and the cleverest plans cannot save you. ^^

And I'm pretty sure that it was--then again, god only knows what translation I read of it when I did read it. XD
