Not lame! =D I do a lot of yardwork around my house (LOTS of lawn mowing) and part of that is so I can cosplay next year. :) Honestly, whatever helps you be motivated, and you're both doing a good thing AND getting more fit!

And this is my problem with society right now.

How is gardening, or taking care of nature menial labour?

If I was capable of doing a job that was physical and meant getting to be outside all the time, I would love it. But the arthritis means that isn't happening.

I know you probably didn't even think to mean it that way, but that's part of the problem. Dismissive to parts of society that we need to make it the way we want.

1) Pretty sure what OP meant was "MANUAL" labor, and chose the wrong word on accident
2) As someone who's had her first part-time job at age 14 and has literally never worked ANY job that couldn't be described as menial, I think you need to get over yourself already. Not everything is an insult. Some jobs ARE menial. Doesn't make them worthless, but some jobs are just not amazing and revered, and landscaping, which I've done, is one of them.

How is that lame? It's geeky and proactive, that's a win-win and that's not even counting the volunteer aspect. Plus all that work in the fresh air makes you feel awesome by the end of the day.

I have to admit, when my work included "Lawn & Garden" for last summer, I so happily dorked out learning more about flowers and thinking about what Aerith would know about them. I can't pretend to be a green thumb (there's still so many things I don't know) but flowers are lovely anyway and relating them to one of my favorite characters made work more fun during slow hours. Even if it's for your own fun, you're helping someone else out, getting your body toned, and learning something new. It's all good.

I don't see a problem with this. Yard work/gardening is pretty relaxing and depending on what you're doing it can be a pretty decent work out too.
