THIS.

Agreed!
I would have loved to know more about the other dimension where they actually managed to get together and have children and grandchildren!

Am I the only one who can't see Esme with anyone, ever?
thene: Happy Ponyo looking up from the seabed (Default)

[personal profile] thene 2012-06-10 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly no, I thought Esme not being with anyone was the whole entire point of L&L. but this is a shipping thread now so them's the breaks. How about some teen!Esme/Fairy Queen?

Oh yes!

[identity profile] cakemage.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I can't even see her with Nanny Ogg, and I can see femmeslash potential just about anywhere.

Vimes/Sybil!

I think TP writes such enjoyable romances because they tend to be...non-smother-y and because neither character is diminished by the relationship.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2012-06-10 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of like that Vimes/Sybil have gone right into post-romance. (Central to a romance plot is a misunderstanding or difference that threatens the relationship and must be resolved.) No matter what shit-storm that Vimes might set off in the novel, Sybil will have his back as a Noblewoman Who Knows People and Writes Letters.

Not only do we get the post-romance, we get them going through having their first child.

THAT. IS. NOT. MY. COW!!

(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Noooo, whyyyy.

It's almost as bad as those fans who are in DW fandom ONLY for the ships, I mean wtf, way to miss the point of a complex universe and zero in on the lowest common fandom denominator.

Why is love the lowest denominator? PTerry writes great romances.

"VV"?
Does it stand for Vimes/Vetinari, or ..?
thunderhawke: (appraising look)

[personal profile] thunderhawke 2012-06-10 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaaaaaah, I don't even know. There's just something about those two snarking at each other that really pushes my buttons. Plus, the fic, while very sparse, is excellent.

I'm a multishipper in like, all fandoms ever, so I also love Vimes/Sibyl haha.

wow I totally forgot that I was logged in as my RP account, OOPS

Yeah!! It pushes my buttons too.

Same for Vimes/Sybil; multishipping for the win!
I've ever seen people suggesting Vimes Vetinari and Sybil could work out a threesome; I'm not sure about this, but if the fic does exist, I'd like to give it a try.

[actual account - hello!]

omfg another VV shipper~! I've only ever known one in my life, haha, this is like stumbling upon fandom gold! I must admit, my favourite kind of fic are the ones from around Night Watch era. Then again, pretty much anything Discworld by [personal profile] copperbadge is gold.

I'm fairly sure I've read something once where Sybil knew about the relationship and was okay with it, but I cannot for the life in me remember which fic it was. Have you read much in the fandom? QUESTIONS. LOTS OF QUESTIONS.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Beside, that I enjoy all of the books, wether they contain love or not, I have to say "I shall wear midnight" only became really enjoyable when I saw the potential of Tiffany X Preston.

Also there are a lot of great couples (Vimes and Sybil, Carrott and Angua, Nanny Ogg and Leonardo da Quirm (asdfkl)) but I liked the fact that the romance was rarely or never an important plot point for the Discworld books.
At the same time you can find romance in a lot of them.

He does it really well, though. It's refreshing.

What I love about his romances is that the characters never feel as though they were created especially for each other, and are even sort of oddly-matched sometimes, but they work at their relationships and appreciate each other for their differences as well as their similarities.

[personal profile] rowkey 2012-06-10 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to say this too! His romances seem very real, and as someone who doesn't enjoy romance very much (if at all) I find his very refreshing and I do enjoy them.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
That one reason I LIKE his works. It's okay to ship. I ship in everything. However, it's so tiring when everything ever has some kind of romantic subplot shoehorned in.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2012-06-10 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, for some of my favorite Pratchett stories a romance subplot wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Actually, I pretty much apply the shipping thing to a lot of my fandoms. u_u; I just really like shipping. To me, to ship is a very comforting thing.
