I really fucking hate these illustrations. Every time I see one I cringe at how bad they are. They look like they were done by a twelve year old -- all super saturated colours and uniform textures and abuse of the smoothing brush. I mean sure, there's far worse out there, but also so much better, so why does it have to be the principle fan art that everyone defers to for ASOIAF?

Not a comment on your secret OP, I just had to finally say it somewhere.

I like to assume these shitty illustrations are slightly-altered Snape/Hermione illustrations. Not that I find the ship any less creepy, but I like to imagine that they're all illustrating some epic, hugely popular but melodramatic hurt/comfort fic in which Snape is disfigured in a potions accident and Hermione ~~ sees past the disfigurement just as she sees past his stern act ~~. See, Hermione's wearing dress robes.

Then, I can imagine this melodramatic fic was so prolifically illustrated that SanSan shippers downloaded all the pictures and repurposed them to provide all the drawings we see. See if you can imagine the scenes these pictures originally illustrated!

Lol, no. There's a lot of awful SanSan fan art that is specific to the pairing. If you want a good laugh, go looking for the illustrations of the Blackwater scene (though I warn you, you might find underage porn).
