You should think exactly the opposite here, OP. The series helped us care about the animals we are around, and so we should spread the word when we are asked about it. Empathy/motivation comes from all kinds of sources, what does it matter to anyone else why we care about helping?

The books are not really obscure either, one a month for 4+ years. I'd say that most people born during the 1980s have at least heard of it, and the kind of people you run into on a daily basis might have also read them. You could find your coworkers share an interest.
