I'm actually not sure why people dislike Mako so much, myself. I don't think he's a bad kid, just a little insensitive.

I think it's mostly a response to the rabid Mako fangirls maybe. He's the kind of character which gets a free pass from some for EVERYTHING and Asami gets hated on because of Makorra. (There is a fair bit of misogyny coming from Makorra shippers). Which might not be fair but there you go.

Plus Mako is for sure the most boring character Bryke ever created. With awful flat voice acting. I mean sure the voices in general are less distinct this time around but....yeah Mako is the worst.

Yeah I don't really get any sort of Mako love, I mean I don't despise him but he's so boring that he makes me fall asleep.

Maybe it's just the part of the fandom I hang out in, but go to like, avatarspirit. They DESPISE Mako there, and have made Asami into this "strong, patron saint of kindness" there.

It's pretty amusing, considering she has no character development really. Oh, so she attacks her father to save her boyfriend, then flips her hair a few times. How strong!

lol I'd say Asami was the worst/most boring character they've ever created. No personality, other than rich girl with perfect make-up who knows self defense, goes between whining or making kissy faces at Mako. Ugh, and that 'self defense' line, just having her say that. Might as well have smacked a "Mary Sue" sticker to her face.

IDK, characters with no flaws are the worst kind of characters, IMHO.

Honestly I'd like him more if he would stop playing both girls. I don't care if he's confused he shouldn't be official with 1 girl while making cow eyes at another (korra don't encourage this!), the way he's acting really rubs me the wrong way.

Also Mako's ep 9 treatment of Korra actually really creeped me out and idk why

This, ia. I like Mako x Asami and Mako x Korra both as pairings quite a lot, and would be happy with either turnout...but I HATE the way Mako is kind of getting the best of both worlds rn. And Korra definitely isn't completely blameless either - she kissed him when she knew he had a girlfriend, etc.

Basically there's all this high school drama and I'm really disappointed that it's been such an important part of this story arc. They need to let it go for now.

Well, personally? I don't *hate* him, but I do think he's being a complete ass as far as Asami goes last episode. He spent the majority of the episode obsessing over finding Korra - and from what I saw/took what I saw, he didn't even seem to notice Asami was there, even after finding Korra. That rubbed me the wrong way, since it made it...kinda obvious that he certainly cares for Korra deeply enough that he probably shouldn't still be with Asami, at least, not until he makes up his mind. Add that to the fact that Asami...well, doesn't really have anyone else to turn to [but Team Avatar] right now? And that's...just kinda a dick move on his part, and makes me less inclined to like him. However, I will admit part of the reason is personal bias against cheating [I...really, really don't like it], and this smacks closely enough of it that it's probably influencing my feelings.

I know it's not the greatest (Honestly, I saw that more as, he has stronger feelings for Korra than he thought and didn't realize he was going overboard with it...) but I honestly feel this will lead to Asami having a character change. Going evil, or at least helping the equalists somehow. (They DO take over the air temple in the finale trailer, and only Mako and Korra are seen together fighting Amon. Hm)

Of course that's also tied into her subtle looks at them, and the fact I don't get how people think she's an unbreakable force of goodness, when really all she's done so far is...zap a few equalists and make googly eyes at Mako. IDK, lol

Maybe, but it *was* still amazingly shitty of him, no matter how you slice it. I mean, the moment he heard about Korra he was holding Asami, then*poof* it was like she disappeared in his eyes...and that's just...well. Shitty. It's something that I simply can't respect him for doing. [...And? Not seeing something =/= Her going bad, just as the fact that you don't see Bolin with them doesn't mean he went bad. We just flat out don't know.]

Part of the subtle looks, I think, stem from the fact that she was told, and probably suspected, that Korra had feelings for Mako. She [Korra] wasn't that good at hiding, but I will say it seems like Korra's trying to be the bigger person here and move on. Plus, one of the 'few equalists' she zapped was her own father, which is saying something considering she seemed like a bit of a daddy's girl. I'm not saying she won't go bad - she might, but we just don't have any way of telling yet. Personally? I'd rather she didn't, if only because I *like* seeing a non-bender who kicks ass as part of Team Avatar.

Did you forgive Aang for forcing himself on Katara, after she said she was confused?

Or Zuko for...well, most of the first few seasons?

You did? Then I think it's a little unfair to not give Mako the same. :P

It's hard to forgive someone who isn't even sorry. The show is obviously supposed to make us feel bad for him, the poor orphan who got trapped in a relationship, realized he liked his brother's crush, was forcibly kissed by said crush right in front of his brother, had to drag his drunken, heartbroken brother home, then had to make the horrible decision of whether or not to give up on his friend because she suspected his girlfriend's father of being an Equalist and was obviously just trying to win him over.
